Lawful Stupid by Kersey475 Lawful Stupid by Kersey475
Also know as Lawful Anal, Lawful Stupid is an alignment that calls itself Lawful Good or Lawful Neutral, but seems to forget about the "good" part. These characters blindly follow the word of rules and laws regardless of how nonsensical they are and firmly don't allow exceptions. Also, they tend to have impossibly high standards and favor extreme punishments such as torture or death for minor crimes such as jaywalking or littering.

The picture above shows SFPD officer Sledge Hammer (from the "Dirty Harry"-parody TV show Sledge Hammer!) about to blown up an entire apartment complex just to deal with ONE sniper on the roof (and that's just the first five minutes of the FIRST episode).

Other Lawful Stupid characters include:
Rorschach (Watchmen)
Miko Miyazaki (Order of the Stick)
Darkwarrior Duck (Darkwing Duck episode: "Time and Punishment")
Hego (Kim Possible)
Jorgen Von Strangle (Fairly Odd Parents)
Maria Hill (Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes)
Byakuya (Bleach)
Zeus (Immortals)
Any paladin

Logically, I think every single robot or AI has to fit under this category. They can only think the way they're programmed to think, and they only think with numbers and books.

some Other Lawful Stupid characters that you mite wont to include are:

Batman when it comes to his one rule.
Hego from Kim Possible.
Jorgen Von Strangle from Fairly Odd Parents.

Detective Sledge Hammer (pictured above) often refers to criminals as "yogurt eatin' creeps" or "jerk weeds".

I'd say ol'Walt is more of the Chaotic Good variety.

I call it just plain lawful evil. Hitler and Stalin both fit into that category. The Kims do too, to an extent. They can be more neutral evil, though, which is more dangerous, because that allows them to shift back and forth between chaotic evil and lawful evil.

So are Rorschach Darkwing and Darthwing Vader both in this category?
Herokiller12344 Featured By Owner Apr 6, 2011
Wouldn't that be chaotic stupid?
Kersey475 Featured By Owner Apr 9, 2011
No, Chaotic Stupid is when a person/character thinks that being "Chaotic Neutral" means being completely fucking nuts. They are very impulsive and tend to do stupid and/or crazy things on a whim like painting a herd of sheep purple or cartwheeling naked on a battlefield.

The third edition even says "Remember that the chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it."

(In fact, I'm getting around to making a Chaotic Stupid picture)

Zim (Invader Zim)
Vezon (Bionicle)
Sam's Mother (ICarly)

Actually, paladins needn't be lawful stupid. In fact, lawful stupid paladins don't remain paladins for long (provided the gods of said universe actually pay attention).

A paladin who slaughters a whole village of goblins... children et all shouldn't remaina paladin... they do, but only because their gods are just as bigoted.

Their Lawful Stupid is based more on "Hey, we've captured a demon but we can't torture it because thats evil even though thats the only way to get information from it."
Chaser1992 Featured By Owner Jun 19, 2013
actually that's Stupid Good which is the smaller opposite of Lawful Stupid. Stupid Good is basically acting like a good two shoes all the time to the point that their acting like a idiot (Stupid Good is normally more annoying more than anything else). Lawful Stupid is following the law blindly and obsessively and cold (if not down right cruel) to the point were they acting more like a sociopathic dictator who will cut a child's hands off then send the child to jail for ten years just for jaywalking just because the law said so. Another key feature to Lawful Stupid is that that think that their just doing what any lawful person would do. They call themselves Lawful Natural or maybe even Lawful Good buy they look a lot more like Lawful Evil.

Torture doesn't work anyway. A person will usually provide false information under such circumstances. Especially demons simply because they're experienced with that. It's better to put emotional pressure on them over a longer period. It breaks down defenses.

Lawful stupid is abiding by the rules past the point where said rules function. A good example would be a robot.

Paladins are bound by the spirit of their rules rather than the rules themselves.
SithLordNergal Featured By Owner May 4, 2010
Of course when you capture a demon you normally don't have that much time to put them under emotional pressure since they're usally killed once they're captured. Or at least the ones my party captures are.

You make a good point about the Paladins. They are bound by the spirit of their rules. It can still be annoying though.

Playing as a paladin is tricky, especially as a proper paladin rather than the psychotic Miko Miyazaki kind (which is munchkin fuel rather than normal)
SithLordNergal Featured By Owner May 6, 2010
I wouldn't really know how to play a Paladin. I normally stick to the Ranger class. I'm going to get a lot of practice at it really soon though.
Orumon Featured By Owner May 15, 2010
Hmm, I don't really play rangers myself. Personally prefer the mercenary attitudes of the vanilla fighter and the wizard. Warlocks are fun too, especially if you play your character well.
SithLordNergal Featured By Owner May 15, 2010
I'm not much for Wizards, although I do play the occasional Sorcerer. Fighters are ok with all the feats they get, but they don't have the skills I enjoy. I like Rangers because of their combat style thing.

Actually, one of my Rangers, who is currently level 20 and is being used as an NPC, was able to fire an arrow into a Dragons eye while it was flying. He also shot an arrow next to the head of an annoying Wizard that was trying, and failing, to hide without looking.
